Let's Get Social Media Savvy

Hello lovely,

Do sororities care about social media? Yes and no.

In today's digital age, social media plays a huge role in our daily lives. It's a platform where we share our stories, connect with others, and express who we are. However, it's equally important to remember that our social media presence is visible to many people, including relatives, potential employers, and yes, the recruitment team at sororities! So the answer to the question, “Do sororities look at your Instagram?” is yes. Sororities do look at your social media accounts before recruitment to gain insight into your personality and ensure that your online content aligns with their values. It's not about your looks or how many followers you have. It's all about who you are and how you choose to present yourself. To help you navigate this, here are some pre-sorority rush tips to follow before and during recruitment:

Do: Untag yourself from Unwanted Photos/Posts

While you might not have control over everything posted about you online, you do have the power to curate your profile. Untag yourself from any pictures or posts that don't reflect the image you want to present. This is a simple first step towards making your social media account represent the best version of you.

Don’t: Post anything that you wouldn’t want your Grandma to see

Imagine your grandma scrolling through your feed. If there's anything you wouldn't want her to see, it probably shouldn't be there. Sororities, like future employers, look for content that is appropriate and reflects good judgment. Be mindful of posts involving alcohol, revealing photos, or obscene language. Your grandma (and your future sorority sisters) will appreciate it!

Do: Post Update Photos of Yourself

It’s important to have updated photos of yourself that reflect who you are today! If you don’t have any photo opps coming up, set up an at-home photoshoot with a friend!

Here are some outfit ideas that will make you look GREAT!

Don’t: Pretend to be someone you are not

It might be tempting to portray a different persona before recruitment, but staying true to yourself is crucial. Authenticity is key. You shouldn't try to fit a certain mold just to get into your top choice sorority. Keep sharing things that genuinely reflect who you are, and have fun with it! Authenticity will shine through and attract the right sorority for you.

Do: Share Exciting Aspects of Your Life and Your Accomplishments

Showcase the best parts of your life! Share your passions, hobbies, and accomplishments. Whether it's a project you’re proud of, a hobby you love, or a milestone you’ve achieved, let your personality and achievements shine. This not only gives sororities a glimpse into what makes you unique but also shows that you’re proud of who you are and what you’ve accomplished.

Dont: Change your Accounts to Private or Public just for Recruitment

The number one question that everyone asks is “Should I make my Instagram public for sorority recruitment?” The answer is no! You don’t need to make your accounts public or private just for recruitment. The information that they would get from your Instagram such as a picture of you, where you are from, and hobbies that you enjoy they already have from your recruitment application so having it online as well doesn’t help or hurt you. On that note, if there is anything you don’t want the sorority to see on your account, going private won’t hide it as there are many other people that can see your account and even if it doesn’t come out until after recruitment ends, they’ll still see your account then.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure your social media reflects the best version of you while remaining true to yourself. Remember, social media is a place to express who you are. Good luck with your recruitment journey, and remember to have fun with it!
