Sorority Rush Advice You Should Ignore 🚫
Think Twice
Hello lovely,
Sorority rush can be a whirlwind of excitement, but it can also come with a lot of well-meaning but misguided advice. Navigating through the noise can be tricky, so we’re here to help you think twice about some of the most common pieces of advice you should definitely ignore. Plus, we've added some fun fashion tips to ensure you look stunning while you make smart choices.
"Wear What Everyone Else is Wearing"
Wearing the same thing as everyone else won’t help you stand out. Choose outfits that reflect your personal style and make you feel confident.
Dare to be different with a few of our pieces. They’re stylish, comfortable, and perfect for making a lasting impression.
"You Have to Impress Everyone"
You don’t need to impress everyone—focus on being yourself and finding a sorority where you feel at home. It’s about quality, not quantity, of connections. Wear something that makes you feel fabulous, like our Petals Sprinkled Strapless Mini Dress or our HELLO MOLLY Springtime Happiness Mini Dress. When you feel great, you’ll naturally make a great impression.
“Avoid the 5 B’s: Boys, Ballots, Booze, Beliefs, and Bucks”
Just like anything in life, nothing is black and white and it's important to use your best judgment. On one hand, some of my most memorable conversations during rush occurred when we swapped stories about ex-boyfriends and funny drunk nights. However, on the other hand, some girls would share stories or make jokes that called their character into judgment. It’s important to make various judgments. Recognize who brings any of those topics up first. If it's obvious that the interviewer isn’t going near those topics, you shouldn’t either. However, if they bring it up themselves then it's ok to mention it, but still tread lightly and try to match their levels. If it does come up in conversation, be mindful of how much of the conversation it is taking up. For example, if the only questions you ask are about the parties and social events you risk sending a message to the chapter member that you only care about the social aspect.
“Don’t forget to set your social media accounts to private!”
Don't rush to make your social media private, or public for that matter, just for a rush. Most sororities will look at your social media account so having a public social media account can help or hurt you. If you have any pictures or information that paints you in a bad light, it can definitely hurt you. However, social media also allows sororities to better get to know you and ultimately create better pairs. For example, if you post about your passion for surfing, the sorority can pair you with a member who also loves to surf, which can lead to better conversations.
“You HAVE to wear heels”
Lies! While each school’s dress code is different, typically, each round just gets more formal but there isn’t a specific dress code regarding what you wear. So if you feel more comfortable and confident in a sandal, rock that sandal!
