These girls have ALL shown off their love for cut-outs from the runaway to various award shows, but believe it or not this trend existed way before them - it’s been around since the 60s! In 1965, fashion desperately needed a trend that would reflect the care-free nature of that time - which is how cut-outs came to be. The trend complemented the art boom, with designers creating big and small holes into mostly black and white pieces (mirroring the popular artwork of the time, like ones by Bridget Riley). After the swinging 60s & 70s, the trend started to die down, then made its resurgence in the late 90s (hey Britney!!) and now cut-outs reign over the runway again! The cut-out trend is all about showing a little skin in a fashionable way.
